Funny, from a global perspective, I thought US "Conservatives" and "Liberals" made up a very very tiny part of the political spectrum, and that the difference between the two is minute.

There are things that only the free market can accomplish, and things that only the government can do. The government is there to keep the people free to participate in the market and every other pursuit of happiness (on a level playing field), and to provide the infrastructure for it all (at least the infrastructure that's too big for individual players in the market).

If both "conservatives" and "liberals" agree on this much, the rest is mostly noise and name-calling.

As far as Microsoft's behavior goes, I think it did act monopolistically at points, but the government's case doesn't address any of those actions. The Department of Justice is complaining about the wrong actions. And it can't complain about the actions it should have (like the trampling of Dr. Dos), because they've become moot (there are competitors out there now).

Since I plan on holding (and accumulating) Microsoft for a very long time, I treat this suit also as just noise.

All of course in my humble (though some may not believe it) opinion, bellows in hand.

Tom
