BOULDER, Col., March 29 /PRNewswire/ - @Link Networks, an integrated communications provider, has selected Nortel Networks (NYSE/TSE: NT) high-performance Internet solutions to provide high-quality data, voice, video and value-added services such as secure Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) via business-class digital subscriber lines (DSL). The portfolio of Nortel Networks equipment, which includes the Promatory Communications global DSL platform, will enable @Link to provide customers with connectivity and networking solutions that are secure, reliable, fast, scalable and affordable.
@Link's plan to deploy up to $225 million worth of Nortel Networks broadband equipment and services fortifies Nortel Networks' strategy to make high-speed Internet access widely deployable and extends its leadership position in broadband, first mile technology.
@Link chose Nortel Networks Broadband Solutions because the company's next-generation technology allows @Link to deliver leading Quality of Service (QoS) and Class of Service (CoS) throughout the network. Through QoS and CoS, @Link can avoid one-size-fits-all approaches to broadband, and instead provide customers with highly customized, differentiated broadband solutions, ranging from high-speed Internet access to advanced networking and e-business applications. The solution enables @Link to aggressively pursue its deployment strategy in the Midwestern United States en route to an ultimate nationwide build-out.
Beginning in Indianapolis in mid-April and moving throughout Middle America, @Link's deployment plan is to make service available in 14 states by the end of 2000, outfitting nearly 1,000 central offices with Nortel Networks hardware and software. Early-entry states are expected to include Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio and Texas.
``This joint initiative gives our company a distinct advantage in the growing market for high-speed data, and gives our customers a distinct advantage in enhancing the connectivity, efficiency and productivity of their enterprises,' said Alex Good, @Link Networks Chairman and CEO. ``Through the next-generation network we are building with Nortel Networks, we can provide today's customers with Quality of Service and Class of Service that delivers the functionality, reliability and security they need. And we are uniquely positioned to meet the advanced connectivity demands of the information-driven customer of tomorrow.'
``Through this alliance, we are signifying our belief in @Link's strategy to deliver high-speed access and a whole new level of connectivity to small- and medium-sized businesses, ' said Steve Schilling, President of Access Networks, Nortel Networks. ``By integrating Promatory's superior DSL platform into our end-to-end portfolio of networking solutions, @Link can offer increased Internet performance, reliability and VPN security. We are continuing to deliver the high-performance Internet, making it more profitable for our customers by enabling them to quickly roll out business-class data services.'
