Joe Strahl's RB post of Jan. 15 contains a major inconsistency - he says "I own dontneedalawyer.com, Inc.". Five days later, in the company's Business Wire PR announcing the new venture it touts itself (quoting Ellen Varner, President and CEO) as being an "all woman owned web enterprise." Four days later, on Jan. 24, the NJ Bar takes the new business to task in a release: [dontneedalawyer] is similar to practicing medicine in a jurisdiction where you do not have a license. Michael Schaff, former chairman of NJ State Bar Assn's computer-related law committee says ...practicing in this fashion may be a crime. (159 N.J.L.J. 303) Oh well, the New Jersey lawyers might be a bit too sensitive about cut-rate fees and practicing law without a license. I wonder if Dontneedalawyer is the outfit that has been filing papers for PABN in Florida, Delaware, Pennsylvania and New York? Looks like Miles Garnett has some competition. But, hey, at least Dontneedalawyer's web site was up today...
