In some ways, Softbank is suffering the same problem that individual investors in the US have. We are reluctant to incur capital gains taxes when we sell an appreciated stock. Amazingly enough, most of us are still in short term territory. There will be time later for a secondary offering of Softbank stock when the market for Softbank shares is booming again (which I have every expectation will occur). I think they should reconsider the form of any new financing like perhaps a preferred issue that can be sold to institutional investors; possibly in conjunction with an ADR or other American trading vehicle.
