GREAT BASIN DISCOVERS ANOTHER

HIGH-GRADE VEIN SYSTEM AT IVANHOE

March 29, 2000, Vancouver, Canada ? Robert G. Hunter, Chairman of Great Basin Gold Ltd. (CDNX-GBG; OTC.BB-GBGLF) is
pleased to announce that a new high-grade gold-silver vein system has been discovered 300 feet south of the Clementine and
Gwenivere vein systems at the Company?s 100%-owned Ivanhoe property on the Carlin Trend in Nevada.

?Ivanhoe now represents the largest under-explored epithermal gold vein system being developed in the United States,? said Mr.
Hunter. ?The high-grade underground-mineable vein systems discovered to date lie within the outline of a 50-square-mile
hydrothermal overprint most of which awaits further exploration.?

Given the immense size of the hydrothermal system, additional parallel vein swarms were suspected north and south of the
Clementine and Gwenivere vein systems which are currently being delineated by drilling, and this is now confirmed. Assay results
for core holes 80, 81 and 82 which discovered the new multiple vein system are presented in the table below and hole locations
are shown on the attached drill hole plan. Core intersections include 4.4 feet grading 2.43 ounces gold equivalent per ton; 18.7
feet grading 0.68 ounces gold equivalent per ton; and 1.8 feet grading 2.00 ounces gold equivalent per ton.

The new vein swarm has the same structural north-west trend and geological characteristics as the parallel Clementine and
Gwenivere systems. All the vein systems remain open for expansion along strike and to depth with significant extensions to all
trends anticipated. Work will focus on extending the new system along strike in both directions. Ongoing drilling will also fully
delineate the Clementine and Gwenivere systems as well as explore for additional parallel gold vein systems with continued angle
drilling on a north-south orientation.

Permitting is in place for 31 additional drill sites that are located outward from the current area of drilling. A third core drill is on
site and will be deployed when wet spring weather improves.
