Hey Niceguy.......

I've been out of town for a few days. I was kind of glad actually as I missed the ugly day yesterday. I checked out a few stores in Albuquerque, NM (Intel country). I had been there a couple of weeks earlier, but only had time to check out a Gateway Country store. This time they had a 1000Mhz machine and a 700Mhz machine. I erroneously said they had them everywhere cause they were the first two machines I saw. Of course they have all the Select line available from 1000Mhz down. The top Intel machine was 800Mhz and this only arrived the last two weeks (announced in December I believe).

I wanted to check out Costco and Circuit City but didn't have time. At the Best Buy there were Athlons from Compaq and HP. They had an 850, 800, 750, 700, 650 and 600. They only had a 700 as the top Intel machine there. I didn't see any ads for the 1Ghz machines as has been mentioned on the thread, though I didn't check that hard. This was a stark contrast to just two months ago when Intel dominated the floor. Now Intel looked like the bargain brand at the store (well hardly a bargain since comparable speed Athlons had either better prices or more features for the same price). The notebooks were about half and half K6's and Intel.

While my family was shopping at Sears I wandered over to their computer offerings. Results 8 AMD machines (six K6's and two Athlons). Only two Celeroffs from Intel. I don't know if this is the same across the country, but at least the retail sector looks to be taken over by AMD. Anyone else been out looking lately?

Sure looks good. I'm hoping even your guess on earnings turns out to be conservative.

Regards Ed P.
