Doug, Maybe the Fed indirectly influences POG on a regular basis but the problem becomes a stigma when it regularly influences the POG indirectly. It's been said before how small the total capitalization of the gold market is compared to major corporations: Would Greenspan have taken on another term if the fate of interest rates depended only on POG? Think about it. He's just gotten married, he's 76: His ticker probably couldn't take the strain ! :-) Seems to me like the question should have been put to Summers. Why should Greenspan instruct reporters on what the Treasury is doing? The ESF scandal is the smoking gun, imo. WH
