What is this about? the cellphone insides dropped tehcnology by a factor of 5 in area, which equates directly to power savings (since most power in ASICs is charging and discharging of capcitors and the area of these went down accordingly). A typical MSM draws something like 7-8 mW running full out compared to the 250-300 mW in 1995. The RF has also dropped power alot by as much or more of a power factor. Same for the Laptop, same for the Sony Camcorder, which also droped voltage by a 40% (from 3V down to 1.8V), which also equates directly to power savings, P=VI. the V part is the voltage drop, the I part is the pwoer to charge and discharge caps. I think your statements are a little overblown. the smart power supply chips are fairly good, but they are not that good. And battery chemistry HAS gotten alot better, by more than 5% a year since 1996. Perhaps you own alot of this stock?
