Infineon to invest 1 bln euros in Dresden plant

FRANKFURT, March 31 (Reuters) - German computer chip maker Infineon Technologies AG said on Friday it would invest more than one billion euros in the expansion of its Dresden plant in eastern Germany, creating 1,100 new jobs. Infineon said it would add a new section to the plant for the production of computer chips using new and more efficient 300 millimetre production technology developed by Infineon and telecommunications equipment manufacturer Motorola (NYSE:MOT - news).

The new production and development activities will be combined in a separate company, Infineon Technologies SC300 GmbH & Co KG, which will include the state of Saxony and M+W Zander, a specialist in semiconductor plant design.

The investment programme will last three years, with construction work on the new section of the facility scheduled to begin in May.
