My take is that someone (a knob) was putting in market orders.

Very possibly... but even if not, those were shares that might have had to be sold yesterday to meet a margin call. I've both bought and sold ROVC and ROVCE several times lately, and there isn't generally much depth. The primary MMs are happy to trade it for the spread, but don't seem to want to be either long or short more than 5-10,000 shares.
