Engineer You are right about the ASIC energy consumption and P=IV. However, if my SONY camcorder uses a 7.2v L-I battery and the D-D converter eats 50% of the power in the middle, the device won't last so long without recharge. That's how SILI's power managememt chips come into play in every mobile device -- cellphone, MP3, PDA, palms, and notebooks.
