Sam - Good growth companies are everywhere - Nortel and TD are both excellent picks. We live in exciting times. NTL and TD are what I'd call more conservative picks, but you know how it is, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. There's a few biotechs I'm looking at, too - but that's a dangerous field if you haven't done your research.
If Greenspan's techniques work again, I think we'll see a strong resurgence by next fall, thru to spring, but I definitely feel that the days of wild growth with no inflation are over.
I wouldn't be surprised to see IW back at 40 by May, and I have expectations of 50 by September. We'll see - Greenspan's gonna have to be careful not to tip us into recession - but I think that's unlikely, all the more so in an election year.
The other thing about the rate hikes is that their effect is delayed by 6 months -so we're just starting to feel the first ones. I think we might see another point, notching it up by quarters, max. By election time, the Fed could well be cutting back, but will have stopped, for sure.
And come what may, no matter the setbacks, the market will be back into high tech - because that's where the growth is. If you're buying stability, sure! Buy a steel company!
One other non high-tech I like is Suncor.
