N R - I agree wholeheartedly with your post. I expect SI to be a forum for intelligent discussion about investment options related to CPQ - I was off the thread for a day and came back to some 90 posts, mostly Jack saying the same thing he has said for the last 18 months - "the company is a poor investment, the management is OJT, blah, blah..." - with El in there egging him on. I have never used the "ignore" feature but I am getting close.
Thoughtful management of my holdings in CPQ through option plays netted me a little over $2.5M last year - the most return on any of my holdings, CSCO included. I don't regard that as "POS" return. I would have missed half of that if I had not had faith in the management team going into 3Q earnings - and I would not have had that faith under the Pfeiffer - Mason management team. I wish Jack and El would regard this as a forum where people would at least occasionally like to have some serious discussions on how to make money instead of having to wade through 15 or 20 repetitive and content free posts a day from people who appear to have no particular interest in either the facts or investment strategy...
Jack may come back and say "Yea but your base holdings dropped 50%" or whatever - I say BS, my profit will be determined if and when I sell some of the underlying. But the reality is I am money ahead for 1999 EVEN IF I HAD SOLD AT THE HIGH - and I still hold the underlying stock. So all this weeping and gnashing of teeth just irritates me. If Jack doesn't like the stock and the management, why not get out of the way of those that do... this is not senseless cheerleading, I work hard to understand the companies I invest in and as long as I can predict to some extent where the company will go, I can make money. The proof is in the results... |
