engineer: With the frequency auctions coming up around the world, does the specific frequency or frequencies (in pairs or otherwise) matter in the CDMA2000 vs WCDMA choice?

The GSMers are still labeling WCDMA "wideband" and CDMA2000 "narrowband". Is there any tech truth to that distinction?

And in Japan could the "new" frequencies be better for WCDMA and the "old" for CDMA2000?

Realize I am using old labels, but don't know new ones.

Your help in clarifying this would be much appreciated.

Best.
