Stocktalk categories

John, I know that the categories in stocktalk have been grown organicly over the years. They serve for some "old" members who have become familiar with them.

But for the general public the categories are quite weird to understand. Some threads are still in the IPO group while their market cap is north of 10B. Some categories display 5 threads, other ones hundreds. Then there are the miscellaneous forums with a whole bunch of threads in them.

As a result I never use the stocktalk page.

Is it possible to redefine the forum categories?
You could define industry groups, based on a general standard. (you might even want to integrate it with the directory service of Looksmart, like you are doing with the gnet homepage, then you can link the category to general information over that industry)
In addition you might create multiple views for threads. A thread might be semiconductors and ipo at the same time. You could index a company or thread in a couple of dimensions and allow users to choose their default and optional views:
- per industry group
- life cycle (private-ipo-development-mature)
- market cap
- country

Over time a thread might change its subject or the company might change from 5dollars and under to a gorilla, then you have to adjust the listing.

It would greatly improve navigation.
