Marv,

I understand what you are saying. OTOH, the capital market has changed dramaticly since the days of Netscape. Many startups nowadays have being eventually bought out by MSFT as integral part of their business plan. Especially with the pending internet stock meltdown, investors may well become more parsimonious towards companies at the IPO stage. There is a role in the market for a packager and perfector. Toyota may not have been the first car maker to put fuel injection and air bags in their cars, but I'd still prefer a well-put-together Toyota than a piece of GM experiment on consumers.

The most ironic aspect of DOJ's case is that, contrary to their claims of MSFT leveraging Windows to push Internet Explorer, many power users like myself have switched from Linux to Windows2000 because Netscape is utterly pathetic when compared to IE.
