(COMTEX) B: Nuveen Launches Fiber Optics and European Internet Define

CHICAGO, Apr 3, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Telecommunications technology and
European Internet are among some of the fastest growing sectors. Communications
providers have expanded equipment capabilities through fiber optics technology,
while in Europe e-business transactions are expected to increase significantly
in the next few years as more Europeans gain access to the Internet. Nuveen is
now offering financial advisors two unique defined portfolios, the Nuveen Fiber
Optics Sector Portfolio and the Nuveen European Internet Portfolio, based on
these growing industries.

"The demand for fiber optics technology continues to grow due to the increasing
demand for bandwidth," said William Adams, Executive Vice President, Nuveen
Structured Investments. "Europe is undergoing an Internet revolution. An
increase in home computer purchases and Internet access has fueled an upsurge in
Internet use and e-business transactions."

Nuveen's two new Portfolios include:

Nuveen Fiber Optics Sector Portfolio. This diversified investment is composed of
20 stocks representing well-established companies in the fiber optics and
telecommunications industries. The Portfolio includes businesses such as Corning
(GLW), MRV Communications (MRVC) Lucent Technologies (LU) and Nortel Networks
(NT).

Nuveen European Internet Portfolio. This Defined Portfolio is composed of 25
stocks representing companies across the European Internet sector, including
browser software, networking equipment, Internet service providers and network
security. The Portfolio includes businesses such as America Online (AOL),
Consors Discount Broker (CSO), Baltimore Technologies (BLM), France Telecom
(FTE) and Yahoo! (YHOO).

The companies included in the Nuveen Fiber Optics Sector Portfolio each
represent 5% of the Portfolio as of March 23, 2000, the initial offering date.
The companies included in the Nuveen European Internet Portfolio each represent
4% of the Portfolio as of March 23, 2000, the initial offering date. Both
Portfolios are available for a minimum investment of $1,000 or $500 for
educational IRAs. Given the market volatility of many of these stocks, Nuveen
recommends these Portfolios be considered an aggressive growth investment that
should be combined with other investments to achieve optimum portfolio
diversification.

The Nuveen Fiber Optics Sector Portfolio and the Nuveen European Internet
Portfolio are both available through registered advisors as a trust with either
a 15-month or five-year term. A defined portfolio, or unit trust, is a fixed
selection of stocks or bonds. Once created, the portfolio is unmanaged until
maturity. Units of the portfolios are sold as shares. Nuveen currently offers
over 40 different Defined Portfolios.

An investment in these Portfolios should be made with an understanding of the
risks involved with owning common stocks and the additional risks of investing
in the European Internet and fiber optics sector, including intense competition,
changing regulations, high research and development costs, product and service
obsolescence and corporate consolidations. Foreign securities, like those
included in the Nuveen European Internet Portfolio, present risks beyond
securities of U.S. issuers, including adverse political, diplomatic and economic
developments; taxes and less publicly available information. The value of a
Portfolio's units will fluctuate based on the value of the underlying
securities, and there can be no assurance that a Portfolio will meet its
objective. For more information about fees, expenses and risks, investors should
obtain a prospectus from their financial advisor or from Nuveen Investments by
calling 800/257-8787. It is advisable that investors carefully read the
prospectus before investing.

Nuveen Investments, a unit of The John Nuveen Company, provides managed assets
and structured investment products and services to help financial advisors serve
the wealth management needs of individuals and families. Nuveen Investments
manages or oversees $71 billion in assets, including $17 billion through its
Rittenhouse office in Radnor, Pa. The John Nuveen Company's stock trades on the
New York Stock Exchange under the symbol JNC.
