purchased a 35mm Advantix system camera

You probably purchased the Advantic system which uses film that is smaller than 35mm film. I've never seen anything about that system being available with 35mm film.

As far as making reprints is concerned, I disagree that digital cameras makes that more difficult. The digital files can be accessed and printed any time you want just as negatives and slides can be reprinted. Moreover, if you want to print them in your own home, having the photos in digital format makes it easier to do so because they don't need to be scanned.

As for quality of printing, there are a couple of $500 ink-jet printers that print better quality than you get from a photo processor.
