chic, <I've been on the thread since November> Which November? 1996? 97? Please go down the years and check what garbage they were pulling over the AMD thread. It is very easy to pour dirt on a competitor if you are backed by a ruthless Chipzilla with billions in bank. That's what those guys did all the time. People do not change over night, these guys just slightly change their skin color recently in the face of apparent pressure of the successful product - Athlon. I predict that you will see a flood of demeaning post from Elmer and Engel in event of any misstep of AMD.
Looking in the past, it may seem that they were right - stock did not take off at old K6 time. However, little analysis would reveal that all their _technical_ arguments were false. "K6 lags in MHz because AMD transistors are vastly inferior to Intel", "talent is jumping out of K7 development", "Athlon is MIA", "Otellini does not lie - ten's of millions of Cumines will soon flood the market", "1 million Cums per week", etc. etc.
Their current trump card is "Cumine is faster than Athlon" while ignoring the fact that the Cumine systems run at much higher bus frequencies. Of course, AMD misjudged the importance of 133 system bus because they underestimated microarchitectural improvements in Coppermine, and now AMD is somewhat late with their new chipset.
<Paul starts a lot of good discussion.> You must be kidding, right? The only theme he starts is "Intel will crush your puny AMD, or make their lives miserable (and my old-old investment will soar higher and higher - go join the church of Intel to help my shares to prosper)"
