"it is impossible for Microsoft to settle with the govt which wants to micromanage how future products will be manufactured" The government has no (NO) interest in managing how future products are manufactured. This case is not about product architecture, it's about MSFT abusing its position of market dominance. They have intimidated, squashed, manipulated, bought, and screwed their competition at every opportunity. If you believe that MSFT's only interest is in product innovation for you, the consumer, as they keep telling you, then you probably also believe that Al Gore invented the Internet. This is a great day for all those software, hardware, systems, Internet, etc companies that have had to carefully step around the bully for too long.
