If the whistle-blowing is based on credible scientific research, well and good. If it's based on paranoid innuendo and sketchy anecdotal evidence, it should be ignored. Modern medicines are more thoroughly tested for safety and efficacy than any the world has ever known. That doesn't mean they're perfect, only that they're the best available. It amazes me to see people who are willing to believe any negative rumor about modern medicine but will buy and consume totally unknown and untested products just because they have a picture of a leaf and the words "herbal" or "natural" on the package. It is worth noting that nations which have embraced modern medicine have the healthiest and longest-lived populations on earth.
