The recent posts on this board have brought up the memories of Columbine, and my experience with being so close to what happened and the kids involved. I remember how the kids...16-18 year-olds...went from worrying about what clothes to wear...to worrying about their own mortality. It takes a toll on everyone involved.

But kids weren't the only victims. I saw parents walking around like zombies, so caught-up in their own families (as it should be) that they couldn't even acknowledge the presence of others. Joanie, it's hard enough to handle our own fears, insecurities, and mortality without being expected to carry the heavy hearts of others in times like that. The fact that you were going to be a comfort to others, even through your own discomfort means a lot. When it comes down to it, you were there for your daughter, nobody could or should expect more.

Take care,
-Joe
