Your club's practice sounds like a very good way of managing your money, and after all, that's what it's all about! We usually buy our first share through our discount broker, and a couple of times I have asked for, and gotten reductions in commissions to $10 which includes registering shares out. I have considered having shares sent out of the DRIP plans to the brokerage for the case as you mentioned where you want to be ready to sell, but since my wife and I plan to stay in the DRIPs for a relatively-long term, we haven't done that yet.

If anyone does find fault with your methodology, I think they haven't really thought it through! Good luck and good investing!
