I beg to differ, especially on this:

The collection of taxes is a legitimate function of government, as is the regulation of harmful substances and the investigation of crime. There is nothing inherently wrong with the bureaus mentioned.

The collection of income tax was consistently found to be illegal until it was finally rammed though by Congress in 1914 under the promise to the states that no one making under $5,000 a year would be taxed.

Payroll deduction was another abuse of property rights that the federal government enacted under the ruse of an economic emergency during WWII. It was supposed to be temporary (but what ever is in Washington?). Today, withholding of income tax is still being done by the IRS under sanction of Republicans and Democrats. It is withheld by means of unspoken threat to companies and individuals alike.

A government -- in a FREE society, a society where individual rights are held to be supreme over government edict (or slippery regulation) -- cannot and would not attempt to legislate morality, but leave it to the individual. All drugs pronounced as "illegal" by the federal and state governments today were legal until early in the 20th Century. They also declared alcohol illegal, but too many Americans fought back on that one so that was finally rescinded. At one point, the federal government declared Coca-Cola illegal... but Coca-Cola fought back by sending their delivery trucks with armed drivers and men who rode shotgun (literally armed with shotguns) to crash the roadblocks set up by federal agents around the borders of Georgia.

We are losing our freedoms because too many Americans do not understand them, or are apathetic.

There has been excessive federalization of matters best handled by the states, there is too much taxation, and there are too many regulations that act as drag on the economy. Vote Republican!

Republicans are what the Democrats were in the 1950s. Don't vote Republican. VOTE LIBERTARIAN!!

VOTE EARLY... VOTE OFTEN!! :-D
