bobby beara: I have been spotting specialist manipulation since the mid eighties... When specialist raise prices dramatically it pulls folks in, it is just that simple. All you have to do is a time/sales analysis to spot when it's being done! It is time consuming, but can be worth the effort. (Actually it is done every single day to varying degrees.)
