I can only imagine that you're looking to CORBA because you don't want to run on Windows. COM+ is a far superior technology.
COM+ gives superior performance when communicating between processes on the same machine. This is why, for example, the Mozilla project implemented XPCOM, a cross-platform implementation of MSFT COM, since the GUI components are likely to be on the same machine. However, when dealing with a distributed system, CORBA wins out, since it is inherently cross-platform, available for all significant OSes, and designed for the needs of high end systems. This is the choice for server systems, since they are not built for MSFT-only environments.
