Christian - Do you know what the computational performance difference is between a
PPro and and Octane not accounting for buss bandwidth, etc.?

I just got the new Origin periodic table and as they said in the conference call "it is a
Mercedes at a Honda Price". If marketing can get their feet in the big Sun shops, I'd say
Origin is a "Sun sinker".

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I can give you the SPEC_int95 number for OCTANE. As you probably know, this Benchmarks measures the computational performance of the CPU without accessing the memory system around.

The SPEC_fp95 does already have some L2 cache access, but still does not use to much of the memory system. So, the important thing is the overall application performance. There we've seen a big advantage for the crossbar-OCTANE against normal bus-based systems.

However, the current numbers are

OCTANE175 MHz OCTANE195MHz
SPECint95 8.4 15.5 (1cpu)

SPECfp95 9.4 17.4 (1cpu)
