re : "They simply cannot compete with a free OS, that compares with Windows 2K advanced server, and runs on 4MB RAM."
I'm a technical guy, just like you, and from a technical point of view, your arguments make sense.
But maybe in contrary with you ,I have a commercial job in selling PC's and electronic components and there is where the reality check comes in.
To put it very simple : "more than 80% of the customers are just not capable to use a little bit more difficult OS."
People like you just can't imagine that. How many times I have to explain that besides the screen, keyboard and mouse, they also need that big box. Sometimes it takes me ten minutes to teach the difference between a click and a double click. And don't misunderstand me , most of them are people with a higher, non technical education.
The big succes of MS and Windows is just that they made it so simple that everybody can use it, and not just the happy few like you and I. And if you are not satisfied with there products, and I can understand that, no problem, install Linux or something else. But I know, those 80% are very satisfied with it, now that they finally learned how to use it, and how hard you and others push Linux, I don't see those people surfing the net to find a new driver for a plug-in card or things like that. It's just a dream.
