Netmosphere(R) Announces Enact Enterprise System(TM) 4.0, Industry's First Enterprise Scale Real-Time Project Collaboration Solution Major New Release of Company's Flagship Software Delivers Internet-Based, Real-Time Communication and Collaboration to Comprehensive Range of Users Across the Enterprise PR NEWSWIRE - April 03, 2000 16:05 PALO ALTO, Calif., Apr 3, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Netmosphere, the leading provider of e-business solutions for project collaboration and communication, today unveiled Enact Enterprise System(TM) 4.0. Enact 4 is an Internet-based product targeted at real-time, enterprise-wide collaboration. This powerful system incorporates Netmosphere's flagship products, formerly known as ActionPlan and Project Home Page, into a single, unified solution that provides everyone in the company, including executive management, team members, and project planners, with the tools they need to effectively manage their complex projects in real-time.
"For 25 years, traditional project management tools have struggled to help companies succeed with their projects. They have focused on rigid methodologies, idealized control systems, and other such unrealistic anchor points," said Kevin Nickels, CEO of Netmosphere. "Netmosphere offers a better way. Enact delivers communication and collaboration in real time -- putting everyone in the organization on the same page at the same time. As projects change -- shifting budgets, shrinking deadlines and last minute revisions, these changes are swiftly reflected in Enact and communicated to everyone instantly. With accurate and current information, organizations can respond more quickly, make better decisions and keep their projects on track."
"Tools for running projects in real time on the Web have made great strides over the past year," said Matt Light, Research Director at Gartner Group. "From live chat around project tasks to email notifications and discussion groups, improved communication among project planners, team members and executive sponsors helps bring projects into Internet time."
"We are seeing improved project collaboration across our organization with our Netmosphere deployment," said Tim Liddell, Vice President of Operations, Medical Manager Midwest. "Our project planners will use the new Enact 4 capabilities such as Critical Path and Email Notifications. Our contributors can take advantage of the new Enact PalmOS integration to manage their tasks on their hand-held devices. And our executive management team can oversee the project status in real-time through the Enact ActionView component."
Enact Enterprise System 4.0
Netmosphere's Enact Enterprise System 4.0 is an easy-to-use, Internet- based solution for enterprise project collaboration and communication. Enact is comprised of a highly scalable application server and three new, core, client-components:
-- ActionView provides executive management and partners with real-time, high-level overview of all the projects they are responsible for throughout the enterprise;
-- ActionPlan delivers fundamental project management functions such as planning, scheduling and resource management;
-- ActionTask facilitates dynamic collaboration between project team members and contributors anywhere in the world.
Combined with an open architecture, these components provide a complete solution for today's Internet-connected world.
A Comprehensive Platform for Project Collaboration
Enact 4's new features raise the bar on Internet-based project collaboration.
Instant Productivity for All Users
ActionView, ActionPlan and ActionTask, the new client components of Enact 4, allow three different kinds of users -- executives, contributors and planners -- to collaborate in the manner most appropriate to their job functions. Pertinent information is organized and presented through a user interface designed specifically for that user's needs and interests. This role-specific approach, at the heart of the new user interface, increases productivity of every type of user throughout the enterprise.
Increased Collaborative Participation via Personal Digital Assistants
(PDAs)
Project team members and contributors can use any web browser to manage their tasks while they're in the office or at home. Now, Enact 4 delivers seamless integration with PDA devices to manage their tasks even when they're away from their desks. Project team members can now download, edit and add information and synchronize their task lists bi-directionally allowing complete portability and flexibility. The first PDA devices supported are the 3Com PalmPilot and Handspring Visor.
Enterprise Scalability
Enact 4's enterprise server scales to thousands of users across hundreds of projects. The new release supports industry standards such as LDAP, Java and HTML, and has extended database support, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server.
Secure Accessibility
Enact 4's new Tunneling feature will allow large companies to collaborate on projects through company firewalls providing connectivity across the Internet for users who are on-the-go or located outside a corporation's Intranet. This feature will also allow for hosted solutions and for integration into B2B portals, for example.
Proactive Project Planning & Reporting
Enact 4 promotes forward-looking project management through real-time collaboration. Enact 4's Critical Path feature shows the series of critical tasks that must be completed on schedule for the whole project to finish on time. The new Email Notifications capability provides an early warning system for the project planner to know about project changes instantly. The new release's SQL database support for Oracle and MS SQL Server allows project planners to generate sophisticated, up-to-the-minute reports on their projects with standard SQL report writers.
An Open Architecture
With Enact 4's newly-published APIs, customers and business partners can now create their own "Enactors" on top of the Enact project collaboration platform to address their specific, business needs.
"The Enact Enterprise System 4.0 brings the next generation of collaborative functionality to everyday project management," added Nickels. "We have seen this approach work at Netmosphere customer sites all over the world, where major corporations and mid-size organizations are today reaping the benefits of effective decision making, increased responsiveness and higher project success rates. With Enact 4, we continue to innovate and extend our unique offerings for project collaboration -- the cornerstone of every successful project."
