> London, April 4 (Bloomberg) -- Amazon.com Inc., the biggest online retailer, is considering selling its fixed assets to focus on managing its brand, the Financial Times reported, citing Jeff Bezos, Amazon's chief executive. Bezos, speaking at a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. e-tailing conference in Las Vegas, said he's interested in in becoming ``the Coca-Cola of the Web,' leaving the management of physical assets such as distribution centers to partner companies, and concentrating solely on developing the Amazon brand. Bezos said ``there are often structural ways of releasing value for shareholders,' and Amazon's online partners couldn't expect it to bail out associate companies should they get into financial difficulties, the FT said.
Amazon said last month that it's investing $60 million in home delivery service Kozmo.com Inc., so customers receive orders within an hour. |
