the vix is is a volatility index. The Vix has to do with put/call ratio. The Vix in the low 30's is an excellent buying opportunity, and the low 20's is selling opportunity. Used heavily by option buyers. Very reliable. In fact, I believe it hit 35 today. Bottom hit?
