HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (Dow Jones)--Audiovox Corp.'s (VOXX) communications unit agreed to supply 1 million CDM-9000 cellular telephones to Verizon Wireless.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

In a press release Tuesday, Audiovox said it expects the Web-browsing cell phone to become the premier handset of Verizon Wireless. The CDM-9000 offers 911 calling, real-time clock and other features.

As reported earlier Tuesday, Bell Atlantic Corp. (BEL) and Vodafone Airtouch PLC (VOD) said they intend to launch an initial public offering for Verizon Wireless, which represents the combined U.S. cellular, paging and personal communication services businesses of the two companies.

On Monday, Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp. (GTE) said they intend to call their merged operations Verizon. The two companies reported their plans to merge in July 1998.

Audiovox supplies wireless products.

Also, Infospace.com Inc. (INSP) agreed to deliver a platform of wireless Internet service to Verizon Wireless' customers.

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Infospace said the platforms, when developed, will enable users to conduct wireless shopping and access information.
