Virus Scan---and really i see no need for having it,so am glad to be rid of it.

I would not discard the Virus Scan so hastily. I run McAfee Virus Scan with no problem and believe it to be a valuable part of my system security.

I only disable it to install additional software, or when I need just a few extra resources to complete a task. Then I bring it back up...it is not a very hungry application.

Have you tried running it while using Resource Meter?
Free resources and "resource conflicts" should be different problems with different solutions. Let's not confuse them.

Maybe you should try updating McAfee? Then reinstalling...then bagging it and going with Norton...<g>

Beyond that, I'm over my head...
