You cant say it didn't work. It has not even yet been tried. The real test won't be until open access.
You can however say you have come to the conclusion that the net benefit so far is zero and that the market doesn't like it.

How can AT&T get rid of "content" if nobody even knows what it is? Is "content" Excite? Excite is very much also a "facilitator" for other peoples content. A lot of Excite "features" are simply branded versions of something created by someone else.

I fully agree that Excite should focus on being a facilitator (maybe a better term is framework), but I dont think that involves scrapping the Excite that already exists and that millions are comfortable with.
