1060 million in 2000Q1...
OK, in 1999Q4, we had 968 million in sales and .43 per share in profit. For the sake of argument, say breakeven(BE) in both quarters was $850 million. Therefore, in 1999Q4, every dollar in sales over breakeven generated 55 cents in profit.
In 2000Q1, it appears we will be 210 million over my hypothetical BE point. Therefore, profit should be about 116 million. Given the number of shares, that works out to a profit of 76 cents share.
Now, please note that as revenue increases, the percentage of profit will probably increase. Therefore, I would expect, unless costs were higher than expected, the actual earnings might beat this 76 cent number by a few pennies. It certainly appears that my $1.14 contest entry number has no hope in heck of being right. Shucks and other such comments. The good news is, unless costs were much higher than I expect, the analyst estimates will be utterly smashed. |
