rushnomore: I've only read a small amount, but from my current understanding, the 'Navy' method is more complex in that it layers memory units and requires current through the matrix. As the article explained, like running a wire through a stack of donuts. As a current is passes through, the magnetic field changes. Add multiple stacks and you get the memory matrix.

MMTI from my limited understanding is more like sweeping over a plane of oriented particles. Each of which can be altered with the application if a current.

The Navy method, (guessing) might be less prone to be effected in the event of massive outside interference. But seems to have some cost/performace disadvantages wrt MMTI.

Again all this is from a limited background and both are years away from the market. MMTI, while very promising, still have a big entrenched base to overcome. Having said that, it could be a disruptive technology in the purest sense - and as such is going to be very volatile but may pay off with some serious gains down the road.

Hope this helps a bit. The raggin bull thread has a couple of good posts on it. (but bunches of crap also)
