London stock market paralysed by system failure

By Louise Ireland
LONDON (Reuters) - Problems with share price data feeds from the London Stock Exchange have delayed the market opening and brought share trading to a virtual standstill.
An LSE spokesman said that prices were indicative only -- or not a true guide -- until the issue was resolved.
The market was expected to reopen at noon and the Exchange said it would clear all order books to a zero position in preparation.
The severe technical hiccup -- the second this week -- came just hours after violent price swings in U.S. stock markets where leading indices lurched in ranges as big as 15 percent.
