announced the availability of Internet-based Virtual Private Network
(VPN) solutions. RSL COM is one of the first to offer such a service
in the U.S.
RSL COM's managed VPN solution provides a hybrid configuration of
private Frame Relay networking with Virtual Private Networking across
the Internet to provide an economical network solution to connect
smaller remote locations to headquarters. This solution is expected to
provide economic benefits for many RSL COM frame relay customers.
RSL COM has been working with one of their existing frame relay
network customers, The Nature Conservancy, to implement the service.

RSL COM's VPN solution provides remote LAN locations with managed
network connections to central LAN resources without the high costs
sometimes seen with private Frame Relay networks. The standard RSL COM
Internet VPN design is based on dynamic authentication and encryption
of tunnels when workstations at remote customer locations generate
traffic for centrally located hosts and servers. These tunnels
automatically and transparently connect through the Internet to an RSL
COM managed VPN gateway. The gateway validates tunnel authentication,
removes traffic from the tunnel, and places it on a private Frame
