This is a crazy(er) market than the bull run! I just hope everyone was at least a little hedged going into all this a few weeks ago. I fear newbies, who "knew" what they were doing in a bull market, have been crushed. And having failed the market's sobriety test, they'll now either miss any rally, or be early sellers into it. I got seven "distress calls" yesterday (the prior record was three!) from friends and family which tells me the pain is real, deep, and pervasive. All the CNBC man-on-the-street interviews yesterday showed calm, I'm in it for the long-term types. That's a far cry from what I was hearing! One friend round-tripped his entire portfolio; five months of heady profits (over 100%) vanished in 12 trading days. He now understands the meaning of the saying, "and pigs get slaughtered." He, like so many others, got sucked in and became punch-drunk. Maybe now, these on-line brokers will stop peddling "instant and constant riches" to attract new customers and start acting responsibly. How about: "He's got margin bleeding out the wazoo!" BV
