VANCOUVER, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 5, 2000-- Coincident with the recent announcement by the Company to option the El Chanate gold property in Sonora Mexico from AngloGold, Standard confirms that the reconnaissance soil-sampling program continues on its 60 sq. mile Zopilote gold property in the Motagua Gold Trend, Honduras.
Since last reported, Standard has been focusing on a soil-sampling program on the Calpules zone that lies to the south and east of the Zoplilote zone where a partially drilled inferred/indicated gold resource of 446,000 ounces already has been identified (see map). The larger Calpules anomalous zone is now over 3,600 metres in length and 300 to 600 metres in width. Reconnaissance soil sampling is being conducted on 100-metre centres to follow up strong stream-sediment (-80 mesh) gold values. Many Calpules soil values exceed 300 ppb gold with a high value in excess of 1.6 gpt gold. Some ``float' samples collected at the eastern end of the anomaly contain over 3 gpt gold. The anomalous zone is defined as that area having at least 100 ppb gold in soils.
In addition, over 200 new reconnaissance soil samples have been have been collected from the Zapote drainage area, approximately 2,000 metres north of the Zopilote zone. These soil samples were collected to follow up on anomalous stream-sediment gold values in the Zapote drainage system, which lies farther to the north. Assays are pending.
A ridge-and-spur trenching and sampling program is planned during 2000 to further delineate and connect surface gold mineralization in the Calpules and Zopilote zones as well as other adjacent mineralized areas. At least 37 manual trenches will be excavated for approximately 4,500 metres total. The trenches will be sampled on 2-metre intervals. Infill soil sampling and additional trenching will be conducted on new soil anomalies as the program progresses. As well, a soil-sampling program on untested areas such as the Limones Lineament is being considered.
Standard Mining is an exploration and mine development company traded on the TSE with its head office located in Vancouver, B.C. and has drill-indicated gold resources in Canada and Honduras. Standard is presently conducting due diligence on AngloGold's El Chanate gold property in Sonora state, Mexico in anticipation of acquiring Minera Chanate S.A. de C.V. The El Chanate gold deposit will provide Standard the potential to become a gold producer within 24 months.
