Virtual International builds ATM backbone network on Cascade's CBX 500 ATM switches

WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 5, 1997--Cascade Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:CSCC) today announced that Virtual International Inc., a provider of high-speed, wide-area data communications, has chosen Cascade's CBX 500 ATM switches to provide ATM backbone support for its various services.

Virtual International currently is implementing 20 CBX 500 switches at 20 different locations, with plans to deploy an additional 25 switches over the next eighteen months. The company will use the new CBX 500 switches with its installed base of Cascade B-STDX 9000 Frame Relay multiservice switches. Using the CascadeView network management system, Virtual International will manage the CBX 500 and Cascade B-STDX 9000 switches as a single network from a single network management platform. This will provide the company with high quality provisioning, troubleshooting, and reporting capabilities.
