Kemble - re: I've had some very interesting conversations recently with some folks at IBM who have told me SUNW will certainly be threatened by DELL within time...
Well, IBM people WOULD say that... but predictions of SUNW's demise seem to have been very premature. The factors which will need to be addressed are largely out of DELL's control - MSFT's Datacenter strategy is still embryonic, and there is little likelihood that the pieces will come together in a way that would support fulfillment by providers like DELL any time in the next year. SUNW is gaining momentum, not losing it.

DELL is doing foundation level work to approach that market - storage, server management, high density web servers. But the fruits of that effort for DELL in competition with SUNW are years out. Also, IBM is tightly focused on attacking SUNW with their own high end products, the S80 / AIX, the AS400, and even their mainframe products.
