Dell says corporate tech spending back to normal

<<NEW YORK, April 5 (Reuters) - The chief of Dell Computer Corp. (NasdaqNM:DELL - news) on Wednesday said spending by businesses on technology has rebounded from the slowdown Dell and other computer makers saw late last year, ahead of the year 2000 date change.

There was ``certainly a deficit of PC (personal computer) purchases around the Y2K changeover,' Dell Chairman and Chief Executive Michael Dell said at a conference here at which Dell outlined a new Internet strategy.

``Spending by corporate institutions around the world (has returned) to a more normal or even rising rate,' Dell said in response to questions about how the computer maker was faring in the first quarter.

Dell said he did not want divulge any more specific financial information about the first quarter ahead of a meeting set for Thursday with Wall Street analysts.

Kurt King, an analyst with Banc of America Securities, called Dell's remark about the rebound in corporate spending ``a positive statement.'>>
