Empirically speaking, the more institutions that are shown to be connected to a stock, the more the lemming retail crowd will follow. Whether this phenom is a result of those institutions plugging a company to its customer base is unknown. Rest assured that I have an above average literacy w/re to econ, classical and "neo classical" :-). I believe you are mistakenly overlooking the elemental premise of my message.
