In addition to supporting the x2(TM) standard, the 56K DeskTalk is software upgradeable to ensure compatibility with future ITU-T international standards.

In addition to high speed and ISA bus Plug-n-Play operation, the 56K DeskTalk provides advanced telephony features including voice capabilities for use with voice mail functions and full duplex speakerphone, caller ID and distinctive ring detection. The 56K DeskTalk is ideal for video conferencing with its V.80 capability and H.324 subsystems. The modem is compatible with DOS, Windows 3.x, and Windows 95, Windows NT, and OS/2 Warp, and offers Auto dial/answer, auto feature negotiation, and software controlled switching for COM1-4.
To ensure that the 56K DeskTalk will continue to provide the greatest value as new standards become available, the new modem is software upgradeable. Purchasers of the new modem will be able to download software updates from the ActionTec Internet site. "The 56K modem industry is undergoing constant change," adds Hadaegh. Supporting even the most sophisticated high speed data communication needs, the modem operates at up to 56 Kbps, and combines MNP5 and V.42bis data compression with MNP2.4 and V.42 error correction to provide full duplex operation with throughput up to 115,200 bps. The 56K DeskTalk is bundled with a microphone and speaker cable so that users can immediately benefit from the telephony features onboard. The modem is fully compatible with all common modem standards to ensure reliable connections when lower speeds are needed. Speed is automatically negotiated on connection.
In the FAX mode, the modem offers send/receive fax capability up to 14,400 bps and provides Group 3 fax support.
Backed by an aggressive five year limited warranty, the modem comes with free technical support. The modem provides extensive self-test capabilities including CCITT V.54, V.52, Analog and digital looping, remote digital looping and pattern test.
