Sun Micro Weighs Antitrust Suit Against Microsoft, Cnet Reports

Palo Alto, California, April 5 (Bloomberg) -- Sun Microsystems Inc., one of the largest makers of computers that run Web sites, is considering a private antitrust suit against Microsoft Corp., Cnet News.com said. The Palo Alto, California- based company is reviewing Monday's ruling by U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson that Microsoft violated the Sherman Antitrust Act, but ``may decide to do nothing,' a Sun spokeswoman said. If it did file suit against Microsoft, Sun likely would accuse the Redmond, Washington-based company of maintaining its monopoly by attacking Sun's Java software, Cnet said.

Jackson concluded that Microsoft used a variety of contract restrictions and pressure tactics to protect the dominance of Windows -- the software that powers 95 percent of the world's personal computers.
