t2: After the panic subsides and cooler heads prevail ( and even if the DOJ somehow wins) MSFT will be the winner regardless of the remedies. If the answer is auctioning off the code who can use it more effectively than MSFT. If it is more openness on API's (if that is possible) it will make no difference. If it is breakup (which may not be in the cards) then MSFT can benefit by that as well. What people forget is that, what a person is buying with MSFT is management, the goodwill of their existing products and their vision for the future. They could give away everything and in 5 years still come out on top. This is just an exercise in neo-socialism bordering on communism that will slow the progress of MSFT for a while but will not stop it. In the meanwhile MSFT becomes both a value stock and a new technology stock. People have been so focused on this case that they have missed the inroads that MSFT is achieving in so many of the emerging technologies. When the pundits wake up to this fact there will be a mad rush to get into the stock. There is no magic with these boys - it is just vision and hard work. JFD
