In 1929 there were also successful orchestrated interventions before they, also, failed.
Unlike the bankers of '29, this time the interventions are very organized (Plunge Protection Team) timely and strong (through the index futures) so they enjoy great successes so far, like last time (was it 10/97 or 10/98?) when the futures rallied and flipped the market from a 7% decline to a gain in what looked like a well orchestrated intervention.
Those interventions, too, will someday be impotent against the flood.
