Compaq partners with 5 cos in e-management deal
HOUSTON, April 6 (Reuters) - Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news), the No. 1 personal computer maker, said on Thursday it had joined forces with five companies to improve wireless, security and systems management for electronic commerce on its computers running Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - news) software.

The company said in a statement it was setting up partnerships with wireless computing software company Infowave Software Inc. (Toronto:IW.TO - news), Web security firm VeriSign Inc. (NasdaqNM:VRSN - news) advanced pager maker Research in Motion (NasdaqNM:RIMM - news) (Toronto:RIM.TO - news), e-mail software maker AutoProf.com and Tally Systems, a supplier of asset management and e-mail software.

The partnerships will enable customers to link computer management and security software and wireless devices that run on top of Microsoft Exchange data management software.

VeriSign's stock was up 22-1/8 at 152-1/2 and Research in Motion rose 22-3/8 to 152-3/4. Infowave was up C$4.35 to C$29.15 in Toronto.
