Twenty to thirty years ago I started hearing people saying things like, "Look lets face reality, little Buffy and Ashley are going to do it, so we should have the schools teach them the stuff they need to know to keep them safe." Adolescence is a very tricky time for people. Part of the time they are perfectly suited to being the responsible adult in charge of their own life. At other times, they want to be a kid and do what ever feels good, expecting the adult world to protect them and maintain safe guidelines for them. When the attitude I mentioned above became prevelent, the flood gates opened. Responsible adult involvement in the lives of adolescents became very uncool. Now look at the mess you've gotten us into...who ever is in charge, isn't home.
